GIRLS STATE ORIENTATION

SATURDAY, MAY 16TH                       10:00 AM

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 112 is proud to host Girls State Orientation for Central Mississippi. This gives Girls State delegates a leg up on what happens, so they can hit the ground running.

Mississippi Girls State—officially American Legion Auxiliary Magnolia Girls State—is a week‑long leadership and citizenship program for high school juniors, held each summer at the University of Mississippi. Delegates learn how government works by creating mock cities, electing leaders, debating legislation, and hearing from state officials and civic leaders.

The program empowers young women through hands‑on learning, leadership development, and lasting friendships—continuing a long tradition of preparing future community and state leaders.

4th ANNUAL COMMUNITY FLAG RETIREMENT DAY

SATURDAY, MAY 23RD                    9 AM - 1 PM

Join us for the 4th Annual Community Flag Retirement Day, a respectful and educational community event dedicated to properly retiring worn, weathered, or damaged U.S. flags. This ceremony upholds the longstanding traditions of dignity and respect for our nation’s colors.

From 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at American Legion Post 112, community members are invited to bring their unserviceable American flags and take part in this meaningful observance. Whether you have a single flag or several, this is a chance to ensure they are retired with the honor they deserve.

We are proud to welcome community partners, including local Scouting America troops (formerly Boy Scouts of America), who will assist in the ceremony and share educational insights about flag etiquette and the importance of this tradition.

This event is open to all residents, families, civic groups, and veterans.
Come join us as we honor our nation’s symbol, celebrate community, and preserve an important American tradition.
